TELUS Named Top Philanthropic Corporation in the World
In recognition of our “give where we live” corporate culture, TELUS has been awarded the prestigious 2010 Freeman Philanthropic Services Award for the top philanthropic organization in the world. TELUS is the first Canadian company to receive this impressive global recognition.

Awarded by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the award honours a corporation that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support and encouragement and motivation of others to take on leadership roles in their communities.

Our give where we live activities include:

  • Dollars and doing: Team members and retirees have contributed $158 million to charitable and not-for-profit organizations and volunteered more than 3.1 million hours of service to local communities since 2000.

  • An innovative role in supporting sports and recreation groups: Some of the causes we have supported include I CAN Play Soccer, a soccer skills program for autistic children and their siblings, and POWER, a collection of interactive performances by culturally diverse youth in collaboration with professional artists.

  • Collaborative involvement of team members, through TELUS Day of Service, corporate matching of Employee Charitable Giving donations and the Dollars for Doers program, which contributes $200 to charity when team members record at least 50 hours of volunteer time annually.

  • Community boards to guide local giving. AFP called this approach, where community leaders and team members who come together to make local funding decisions and seek out charitable partners, unique in Canada. Since 2005, our nine community boards have given more than $21 million in three areas: arts and culture, education and sport, and health and well-being in our environment.
